Marlin had to stamp serial numbers on them before they could be sold to distributors. I bought two of them, both made before 1968. A few years ago, before Marlin was sold they cleaned house and sold a bunch of old guns that had been kept at the Marlin factory for many years. Serial numbers where made mandatory for all firearms in 1968 but they didn't say that those made before that date without serial numbers were illegal. Maverick 88 have Mike Victor prefix, 5 numbers, and letter suffix.500 / 590 / store brands all use standard sequence.ALPHA comes before BRAVO, and 100000 comes before 900000. They have a letter prefix and then 6 numbers, like this: A123456 or Z654321. Mossberg serial numbers are typically 7-characters. We're going to fix that but we need your help.
